The fall of Rome!!!

The fall of Rome

Ancient Rome had several problems contributing to its downfall. It occurred when Diocletian split the empire in half. Also, attacks from nomadic tribes contributed to the fall of the empire. There was inflation (the value of money going down) also happening during this time. The empire was also getting too big to control. Rome also hired mercenaries to fight wars for them.

Many aspects of the fall of Rome can be compared to the U.S today. The U.S.: hires mercenaries to fight wars, is undergoing inflation, and is attacked by terrorists

I think that the U.S will not fall like Rome because the U.S can analyze what happened to Ancient Rome and change to fix the problem

The Beginnning of Hellenistic Culture

Hellenistic culture first began with King Philip II of Macedonia, on the original conquest to conquer the world he invaded the city-states of Greece and took them over. However King Phillip II was stabbed by his bodyguard, implying that his dream of conquering many territories was over. But instead his son Alexander (later will be known as Alexander the Great) took over as king of Macedonia and conquers Persia, part of India, and Egypt.

Alexander the Great, as he was known then, combined the cultures of the lands he conquered, including Macedonia to make Hellenistic culture, a culture formed on the basis of cultural diffusion.

The Geography of Ancient Greece

The Geography of Ancient Greece

Ancient Greece’s geography differed from the geography of other civilizations. Mountains parted the city-states causing them to become independent. Greece is also scattered across the Aegean and Ionian Sea. Greece can be considered both a peninsula and an archipelago.

Since Ancient Greece was divided, the beliefs and governments of the different city states differed too. For example, Athens and Sparta are far from each other and they observe different governments, democracy and oligarchy respectively. They also value different ways of life, Athens valuing art and wisdom, and Sparta valuing military service. In a way, you may say that geography shaped the way of Ancient Greece.

What was the name of the mountain where the Olympics first occurred?

The Golden Age of Athens

A Golden Age was a time in a civilization when inventions, ideas and achievements in art and architecture were created. The Golden Age in Athens occurred from 477 B.C to 431 B.C. The ruler of Athens at this time was Pericles. Pericles had control of the Delian League, a league which controlled all the city states in Greece. He used the money from the Delian League to strengthen the Navy of Athens. He also used the money to beautify Athens.
